Sources for the Best Hospitals Ranking
Newsweek created its ranking of the world’s best hospitals based on these sources:
- Survey of medical experts — Over 85,000 medical experts (doctors, hospital managers, health care professionals) in 30 countries participated in an online survey. Experts weren’t allowed to recommend their own employer hospital.
- Patient satisfaction surveys — Patient experience surveys were used. These included hospital satisfaction, hospital recommendations, and medical care satisfaction.
- Hospital quality metrics — Public data on available treatments, quality of care, hygiene measures, patient safety, and staffing ratios were collected for most countries.
- PROMs implementation survey — In 2023, hospitals were surveyed by Newsweek and Statista about the implementation of PROMs, which stands for “patient-reported outcome measures.”
